Hello, Aidan Noone here and I'm really happy to be with you again today, wherever you are in the world. And I hope you are doing reasonably ok.
Positive Affirmations, What are they? How do they work?
Are positive affirmations any good? Are they useful? Do they Work? Lots of questions and I'm sure you'll get lots of different answers.
"I am strong and comfortable when asking my boss for a pay rise" "As I rise from my seat and walk on stage to give my speech, I am energetic and determined as I know deep down my audience really wants to learn from me, and are totally interested in what I have to say" "Then, I know, this is what I enjoy doing." You feel it deep down inside you.
My opinion is that positive affirmations are much better than using negative affirmation. What is a negative affirmation? Firstly, I believe it's important to know a little bit about how your mind works. Your mind cannot process negative language. Example, "I don't want to be anxious." The issue with the last sentence is that when your mind 'reads' this sentence, it deletes the word 'don't' and focusses on the action of the sentence. Therefore the sentence becomes, 'I want to be anxious". I'm sure you have often read at the end of a letter, "Please do not hesitate to contact us." What does your mind do with that sentence? Yes, it deletes the 'do not' and the sentence becomes, 'hesitate to contact us.'
I would say that the use of appropriate specific language and use of specific words has an effect on our neurology and subsequently affects our motivation. Again, our brain cannot process negative language, it focusses on action and outcomes.
"Don't think of a pink elephant" You immediately think of a pink elephant. You have to think about what you don't want before you think about what you do want". Positively worded affirmations go straight to the heart of actioning what we want to do, to achieve.
Always, always focus on the outcome, what you want as opposed to what you don't want.
I suggest you write out some positive affirmations, make a list and read the list every day and discover how they affect your neurology and how you are feeling and achieving.
"I am strong and comfortable as I present to my bosses today"
"Each day and every day I am better and better"
"I am motivated to succeed as deep down I know my audience wants to hear and learn from me."
Of course, physical action is also very important. We must want to achieve what we affirm in a positively worded affirmation and or suggestion.
There is a hundredfold amplification when affirmations are used in the hypnotic state. Hypnosis helps to embed and amplify positively worded suggestions.
