Recently I returned from vacation, rested, and yet a little stressed from traveling, I do find air travel a little labourious at times. Perhaps, some of you may identify with my experience. Anyway, I returned home, I have a reasonably large garden, to find the grass had really grown high and the weeds, yes the weeds. In some places, all I could see was weeds and not the real beauty of the varying shades of green we have in Ireland. In themselves, weeds are beautiful, sometimes magnificent flowers and they do provide our bees and insects with much-needed nourishment. I admit I do have a section of the garden that is wild, wild in that my friends the weeds have a place to grow and be themselves without interference from me. However, my "enjoyment" garden has the least amount of weeds and I'm able to see the also beauty of hybrid plants, roses, honeysuckle, lobelia, and the ericaceous loving plants with their striking colours.
Each person, each environment has its own unique beauty in and of itself. I don't necessarily add anything to their beauty. I can appreciate their beauty and delight in their beauty.
So where am I going with all of this? Sometimes, we think a garden must be a certain specific way, look a certain way, behave a certain way, and yet there is beauty in the "disorganised". Also, sometimes we allow the weeds to destroy our vision of the beauty of a garden as it was designed. The expression, "I cannot see the wood for the trees" comes to mind. It's whatever brings you peace and joy and happiness, whatever happiness means? Each to their own! You can decide, you can design and you can choose! What's your choice?
